Councilwoman Mandy Simons

Councilwoman Simons has served on the Elko City Council for twelve years.  She is currently the Mayor Pro Tempore.  Councilwoman Simons was born in a small farming town in Southeast Idaho and is the oldest of three children. She completed her high school education at Minico High School. Afterward, she pursued higher education in Las Vegas and graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) with a degree in Political Science in 2002.

Two years later, she married Mason Simons, and the couple decided to relocate to Elko in 2005. Mason took a job at the Public Defenders office, which prompted their move to the area. In Elko, they have raised their four children and have come to appreciate the wonderful community and opportunities available for their children.  Councilwoman Simons excels at balancing her personal life with her civic responsibilities.   Playing the piano and serving as the pianist for the Elko High School Choir is not only a testament to her dedication to her community but also showcases her passion for music and her involvement in supporting the arts in her local area.

Councilwoman Simons is the liaison for the following departments and community boards:  Airport and Public Property, Parks & Recreation, Streets/Public Works Department, Building Department, Animal Shelter (2nd) and the Arts and Culture Advisory Board.
