The City of Elko Fire Department shall operate economically, efficiently, and professionally as a combination career and volunteer emergency services provider, offering fire response, rescue response, emergency medical services response, initial hazardous-materials response, Aircraft rescue and Firefighting services, and personal public services, by well trained, equipped and dedicated personnel.

The City of Elko Fire Department will strive to provide quick, efficient, effective, and professional response to all public calls for emergency fire, rescue, environmental, and public assistance need. The Fire Department believes and supports the concept that most fires are preventable through the combined efforts of our customers and an aggressive public education, inspection, training and safety compliance awareness program.

Furthermore, no citizen should have to die or be seriously injured by the ravages of fire, when public awareness, safety practices, common sense fire prevention, and rapid competent emergency services response are combined in a team effort of the citizenry and the Fire Department. 

Elko Fire Department also supports and assists the immediately surrounding areas outside of the corporate boundaries with automatic-aid, mutual aid, and extended-aid emergency response of personnel and equipment in order to serve and protect the public, and prevent duplication of expensive public safety readiness where practical. 

The City of Elko Fire Department has been recognized for having outstanding fire safety for their proactive measures in improving their community's fire life safety records in the future. The Elko Fire Department is the Recipient of the Life Safety Achievement (LSA) award for the third year in a row.

City of Elko Fire is a combination Department consisting of:

  • 1 Staff Officer position
  • 1 Fire Prevention Bureau position
  • 1 Administrative Technician
  • 15 Career Firefighters (3 shifts)
  • 34 authorized volunteer positions
