Section 2-2-5 ELECTRICAL CODE AMENDMENTS


All electrical construction work, electrical alterations or repair, installation and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical supply and communication lines and the inspections thereof shall be in conformity with the provisions of this Chapter and with the latest edition of the National Electrical Code along with supplements as adopted by the National Fire Protection Association which is hereby adopted by the City, with the following specific additions and deletions:

ARTICLE  80  Administration and Enforcement is deleted in its entirety.

ARTICLE 210 Branch Circuits

    Section 210.8  Ground-fault Circuit-interrupter Protection for Personnel

    A new subsection (C) (1) to Section 210.8 is added to read as follows:

    (C)  All Occupancies

    (1)  All 125-volt, single-phase, 15 an 20 ampere receptacles installed within 1.8 m (6ft) of sinks or basins shall have ground fault circuit-interruptor protection for personnel.

Section 210.23 Permissible Loads

A new subsection (E) (1)-(7) to Section 210.23 is added to read as follows:

(E)  Dwelling Branch Circuits

(1)  The maximum number of outlets on a 15-ampere, 125-volt (nominal) circuit used exclusively for receptacles shall be eight (8).

(2)  The maximum number of outlets on a 20-ampere, 125-volt (nominal) circuit used exclusively for receptacles shall be eleven (11).

(3)  The maximum number of lighting outlets on a 15-ampere, 125-volt (nominal) lighting fixture circuit shall be twelve (12) and not contain general purpose outlets.

Exception 1:  Dedicated branch circuits feeding only IC rated recessed fixtures may use Article 220.3 (B)(4) for maximum number of lighting outlets.

Exception 2:  In branch circuits serving smoke detectors outlets need not be counted with the other lighting outlets.

Exception 3:  Designed plans by a Nevada Registered Electrical Engineer.

(4)  The maximum number of lighting outlets on a 20-ampere, 125-volt (nominal) lighting fixture circuit shall be sixteen (16) and not contain general purpose outlets.

Exception 1:  Dedicated branch circuits feeding only IC rated recessed fixtures may use Article 220.3 (B)(4) for maximum number of lighting outlets.

Exception 2:  In branch circuits serving smoke detectors outlets need not be counted with the other lighting outlets.

Exception 3:  Designed plans by a Nevada Registered Electrical Engineer.

(5)  The maximum number of outlets on a 15-ampere, 125-volt (nominal) circuit used either exclusively for receptacles, for lighting outlets or for any combination of receptacles and lighting outlets shall be eight (8).

Exception 1:  Dedicated branch circuits feeding only IC rated recessed fixtures may use Article 220.3 (B)(4) for maximum number of lighting outlets.

Exception 2:  In branch circuits serving smoke detectors outlets need not be counted with the other lighting outlets.

Exception 3:  Designed plans by a Nevada Registered Electrical Engineer.

(6)  The maximum number of outlets on a 20-ampere, 125-volt (nominal) circuit used either exclusivley for receptacles, for lighting outlets or for any combination of receptacles and lighting outlets shall be eleven (11).

Exception 1:  Dedicated branch circuits feeding only IC rated recessed fixtures may use Article 220.3 (B)(4) for maximum number of lighting outlets.

Exception 2:  In branch circuits serving smoke detectors outlets need not be counted with the other lighting outlets.

Exception 3:  Designed plans by a Nevada Registered Electrical Engineer.

(7)  No more than four (4) duplex receptacle outlets serving the required counter top receptacles shall be installed on any small appliance branch circuit.

Exception 1:  Receptacles installed to provide power for electric ignition systems or clock timers for gas-fired ranges, ovens or counter-mounted cooking units.

Exception 2:  Designed plans by a Nevada Registered Electrical Engineer.

ARTICLE 225 - OUTSIDE BRANCH CIRCUITS AND FEEDERS

    Section 225.32    Location is amended by deleting "either inside or" from the first sentece

    Section 225.31.  Dissconnecting Means is amended by adding the following to the end:

    When more than one building or other structure is on the same property and under single management, each building or other structure served shall be provided with means for disconnecting all ungrounded conductors.  The disconnecting means shall be installed outside of the building served at a readily accessible location.  A shunt trip may be used to satisfy this requirement where:

(1)     It is located at seven (7) feet above finished grade.

(2)    It is located within a twelve (12) inch equilateral triangle, red in color.

ARTICLE 230 - SERVICES

    Subsection 230.70(A)  Location -  (1) and (2) are deleted in their entirety and new Subsections (1) and (2) are added to read as follows:

    (A)     The service disconnecting means shall be installed at a readily accessible location outside of a building or structure.  A shunt trip may be used to satisfy this requirement where:

    (1)    It is located at seven (7) feet above finsihed grade.

    (2)  It is located within a twelve (12) inch equilateral triangle red in color.

ARTICLE 310 - CONDUCTORS FOR GENERAL WIRING

    Section 310.5  Minimum Size of Conductors is deleted in its entirety and a new Section 310.5 is added to read as follows:

310-5. Minimum Size of Conductors.  The minimum size of conductors shall be as shown in Table 310-5.

Aluminum and Copper-Clad Aluminum conductors smaller than No. 6 AWG shall not be used.

ARTICLE 334 - NONMETALLIC-SHEATHED CABLE

    Section 334-12 (A). Uses not permitted.

    Section 334.12 (A) is amended by adding two new Subsections (11) and (12) to read as follows:

    (11)  In Type I or Type II construction as defined in the Building Code.

    (12)  In any industrial or commercial occupancy including motels and hotels.

ARTICLE 340 - UNDERGROUND FEEDER AND BRANCH-CIRCUIT CABLE

    Section 340.12 Uses not Permitted

    Section 340.12 is amended by adding a new Subsection (12) to read as follows:

(12)  In or on any industrial or commercial occupancy including motels and hotels.
