The City Clerks Office is responsible for preparing all codified Ordinances and Resolutions adopted by the City Council. Ordinances are law set forth by the City Council, which are proposed and read by title at one meeting and then published and set for public hearing within 30 days after proposed. The Council may then take action to adopt into law. Once adopted, ordinances become effective upon publication, unless otherwise set forth. The Elko City Council generally establish fees through the adoption of a Resolution which are codified and become a part of the City Municipal Codes.

| Business Impact Statements | Nevada now requires that a municipality considering a new ordinance, or amending an old ordinance, which is likely to impose a direct and significant economic burden on a business, to perform an analysis of the impact and prepare for the record a business impact statement. The analysis requires, in part, sending copies of the proposed ordinance amendment to specifically affected businesses, to trade unions, to the Chamber of Commerce, in such a way as to give notice to the businesses that might be affected. |
